Bryan A. McCullick

Biography
Dr. McCullick Earned a B.S. from the University of Alabama, a M.S. from the University of Wyoming, and a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia. His teaching experience includes physical education instruction at the elementary, secondary, and collegiate levels. At UGA, he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Elementary School Physical Education, Approaches to Sport Pedagogy, Research Literature in Coaching & Coaching Education while supervising and coordinating the student teaching experience, and serving as Coordinator of the Health & Physical Education Teacher Preparation Program in the Department of Kinesiology. In 2008, McCullick was a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Sports Studies and Physical Education at University College, Cork (UCC), IRE where he was an Adjunct Professor in the College of Arts and Celtic Studies from 2010-19. He served as a Fulbright Specialist Scholar in 2012 with the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) in Dublin, IRE, where he assisted in renovating their coaching education program. His election in 2016 as a Fellow of the National Academy of Kinesiology (NAK) is one of the highest distinctions in the field.
Stemming from his strong commitment and concern for quality physical education, physical activity, and sport instruction for children, he has targeted his research on issues germane to Teacher/Coach Development and Teaching/Coaching Expertise. Dr. McCullick’s work has been supported, in part, by grants from the National Institutes for Health (NIH), US and Georgia Departments of Education, Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA), Club Corporation of America, Athens Area Community Foundation, Gaelic Athletic Association, Williams-Rhodes Endowment Fund, GOLF Magazine, and the Board of Regents for the University System of Georgia. AAHPERD honored him in 2006 with the Mabel Lee Award for achieving national recognition as a professional leader before the age of 36. Over his career, McCullick has served as the Research Coordinator for NASPE, Chair for the Research on Physical Education Special Interest Group of AERA, a member of the AIESEP Board of Directors, and a Research Fellow of SHAPE America. His research has appeared in the Journal of Sport & Health Science, Journal of Teaching in Physical Education (JTPE), Research Quarterly for Exercise and Sport (RQES), Quest, Sport, Education and Society, International Journal of Sports Science & Coaching, International Journal of Sport and Exercise Psychology, Preventing Chronic Disease, Sports Coaching Review (SCR), International Journal of Sport Psychology, and Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy. Along with his esteemed colleagues, Phil Tomporowski and Caterina Pesce, Dr. McCullick is co-author of the text, Improving Children’s Cognition with Physical Activity Games (Human Kinetics, 2015) which has been translated into Italian, Portuguese, and Turkish. Additionally, he has presented over 115 papers to scholarly societies in the USA, Singapore, Ireland, Australia, Germany, Canada, Scotland, Finland, Taiwan, Turkey, Japan, China, Spain, Korea, New Zealand, and Greece. After serving as an Associate Editor for RQES for eight years and on the Editorial Board for two, he is now Editor-in-Chief Emeritus for JTPE, an Editorial Board member of SCR, Frontiers in Sports and Active Living, and the Journal of Physical Education and Sports Studies (JPESS).
